feng shui living room

Feng shui living room is best for harmonizing the flow of chi in your home. In your home, you can utilize  all the elements of feng shui bagua.

After a careful inspection of your home, you can find several ways to decorate your home and thus bring in and manage a better flow of constructive chi.

You can start tweaking with the color of your walls, plantations in your living room, fixtures, furnishings etc. and try to work on all aspects of these items to bring in positive chi in your room and manage its flow. All of these items can be used to balance and harmonize the positive flow of energy in your room. Let us understand some fundamentals to work on your living room feng shui.

Furniture, fixtures, furnishings etc.

The orientation of all these items is very important in harmonizing the elements of feng shui. Ideally, your chair(s) and couch(es) should be facing towards the door. If it isn’t achievable, then you must make sure that they don’t have their back towards the door. The arrangement of seats should be such that the people can see the door without turning around. You can try octagonal or circular arrangement for seating plans as well. The number of seats should be even in number. Leave sufficient room between the seats so people can move and walk around easily.

The main table must be clean, clutter-free. This symbolizes health in feng shui. You can also place some natural plants or some fresh flowers bring in positivity and a “healthy feeling” in your living room area.

Mirrors

Mirrors are extremely important in feng shui and even more so in living room feng shui. A mirror placed well can serve a lot of purposes for your living room. Mirror can very well illuminate the area of the room and can also make your rooms look larger. A mirror can also be used to view the door’s reflection from a specific location of the room. Be careful enough not to place the mirror right in front of your door. It shall repel away all the energies coming inside the room. If you have a smaller living room, you can put up a large mirror which shall make your living room look larger. But make sure that it does not crop your head-reflection while you are sitting or standing. Your reflection should be a proper reflection when you see yourself in the mirror.

Corners / Dark Areas

It is sometimes a little challenging to handle the corners of your room. You can use plants or lighting fixtures (lamps) in these areas to lighten them up. You can try hanging a painting of your choice to fill up these areas with some positive energy. You can also place a potted plant with round leaves in the corners. Don’t use plants with straight or spike shaped leaves in corners. A fish bowl (or aquarium) is also a great choice for corners in your living room.

You can also use crystal items of various sizes and use them to spread the energy all around the room. This shall attract chi and spread it through these corners which otherwise shall not share the positive energies. To create the balance and harmony, it is essential that the positive energy flows all through the room, including corners and dark / shaded areas.

Colors

Your guests should feel relaxed and comfortable when they are in your living room. The colors used on the walls of the living room should have coziness and warmth. The better option is to use softer pastel shades for walls but not just for walls. The colors of the items you choose should match up with the directions of the room as per the feng shui map e.g. you should use violet color carpet, if your living room is located in the south-east direction of your home. The choice of color should be green for carpet if your living room happens to be on the east side of your home.

Paintings

Living room is generally the most decorated area of your home. You can use many paintings to decorate your walls. In feng shui, it is believed that paintings / pictures have different meanings and are symbolic for your home.

Swimming fish: long life.

Cascading water: good luck.

Paintings of lambs: luck.

Landscapes of sunrise, mountains or water: symbols of hope.

Happy and smiling people: encourage positive feelings.

Dark colored pictures: ill health

Paintings based on geometrical shapes: increase destructive feelings

Excessive use of red color induces irritability.

Paintings and pictures of wild and ferocious animals bring poor health.

Electronics

Today’s living rooms mostly have electronic items (like TV, music systems etc.) in central position. It is not advised to place a TV in the focal position of the feng shui living room.

Fire-place

If your living room has a fire-place, then make it central location of the room as fire is symbolic of passion and can create and stimulate free flow of energy.

Miscellaneous

Apart from that, you can have a round clock (white or golden) in west or north-west directions of your living room. This brings good luck. If it is a possibility, try to place the clock over the left side of the living room and same wall which has the door that leads into the room.

Summary

Some small changes and rearrangement of items are all that is needed as quick-fixes to fetch the constructive chi inside the living room and spread it evenly, throughout the living room. That is all it takes to create a feng shui living room which can bring happiness to life and keep disagreements away.
